From East Sussex to North Yorkshire is quite a trek, but we took it easy and arrived in time for tea (albeit a late one).
Yorkshire: York
Pat, our Airbnb host, was a lovely lady who had indeed provided us with tea and cake on our arrival. This was our view the following morning.
York is a beautiful city! Our Airbnb home for the next few days was far enough out of the city to be peaceful, but just about close enough to allow us to get there on foot. We found a pretty walking route along the river and soaked in the sights and sounds. Not to mention the smell of the Nestle Rowntree chocolate factory!
The city centre is divided between the newer retail area and the ‘Shambles’, an old cobbled street with some buildings dating back to the fourteenth century. There’s also the majestic Minster. Be warned though! It’s wall-to-wall tourists!
Much of the time was spent with my Mum 🙂
Put tennis balls on your bean poles so you don’t poke your eye when you pick the flowers.
From south to north and then back down south again. Pet sit number 3. This time for a friend. A return visit from last year.
Oxfordshire: Barford St Michael
Tigger and Coco! They just about tolerated our human presence. Cats, huh!
Barford St. Michael, not to be confused with Barford St. John (which is right next door), is in the county of Oxfordshire, on the edge of the Cotswolds. It’s a small rural village, so small there are no stores, but there is a pub! There’s plenty of walking in this glorious countryside. We took full advantage of it and reveled in the ongoing sunshine, clear skies, and altogether fabulous weather.
They say ‘time flies when you’re having fun’. I think that’s even more so when you’re having fun being lazy! And relax!
Is was soon time to move on. Our journey southward continued to our next pet sit in Liskeard, Cornwall. We stopped along the way for a few more nights with my Dad, lunch in Bath, and an overnight Airbnb stay in Edington.
Somerset: Bath
On one of our very few damp, drizzly days we made the most of a couple of hours in Bath.
Wiltshire: Edington
We rested a while at a cute little Airbnb guest house, where we were spoiled rotten with a surprise cream tea and then a truly magnificent, 3 course (yes, 3 courses!) breakfast. We rolled ourselves into the car and continued onto Cornwall.
Cornwall here we come!
